Chopra, 22nd April: After many years the residents of Khunia village of Chopra Assembly voted for their favoured candidate. In earlier days people of Khunia went for polling but were not allowed to vote. However, this year, the villagers cast their votes peacefully.
Speaking to Siliguri Times’ correspondent, residents said that before during the assembly elections and panchayat elections, they often used to be the victim of false voting. Nobody argued about it for fear of their lives. Contrary to previous years residents of Khunia village said that they voted peacefully this year and did not face any hurdles, though they seemed frightened by the shooting incident in the village that occurred on Wednesday night.
