Siliguri, 03rd August: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of West Bengal celebrated Rakhsha Bandhan across the state in a different way due to the pandemic.
It has been learned that Rakhi Purnima is celebrated as Sanskriti Diwas every year under the joint venture of the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports and Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
However, this year, instead of rakhis, masks were distributed among the people in front of the Goshto Pal statue adjacent to Siliguri Bidhan Market to raise awareness.
According to the members of the organization, it is risky to celebrate the Rakhsha Bandhan festival amid the pandemic. However, considering the importance of the festival, the Youth Welfare Department has decided to celebrate the day in order to spread COVID-19 awareness.
