Siliguri, 11th May: On Saturday, Mayor Gautam Deb of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) visited the area of Mahananda Barrage in Fulbari to inspect the ongoing repair and purification work. The mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, municipal members, and other officials.
According to reports, the Teesta River is undergoing purification work, including the removal of silt at Fulbari Drainage Center. Significantly, the work is anticipated to be completed within 15 days. Consequently, the city of Siliguri has stopped receiving the water supplied from the river. At present, the water from the Mahananda River is being sourced and distributed to various wards of the city by the corporation.
On Saturday, Mayor Gautam Deb inspected the Mahananda Barrage area of Fulbari and examined all aspects of the situation. Meanwhile, the residents have expressed concern over the impending water crisis due to the ongoing repair work. The residents are expecting the municipal corporation to resolve all issues in line with established policies and ensure an uninterrupted water supply soon.
