Siliguri, 30th July: In a significant achievement, the Pradhan Nagar police officials apprehended a relative of the Councilor of Siliguri’s Ward No 47 on charges of defrauding several people of lakhs of rupees under the garb of a jewelry company. The accused has been identified as Deepak Saha.
According to reports, Deepak Saha started a jewelry business a few years ago where he hired female agents to entice people to invest in his business. He operated his business from two different locations in Siliguri. However, the accused abruptly closed both branches. Following this, the investors began to pressurize the company’s agents to repay the money which led the agents to file a written complaint against Deepak Saha at the police station. As stated, Amar Ananda Das, councilor of Ward No. 47 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), is Deepak Saha’s maternal uncle in the relationship. As the news unfurled, a protest was staged in front of the Ward Councillor’s residence on Saturday.
Deepak Saha was thereafter apprehended by police. It has to be noted that the accused was also apprehended on similar charges in the year 2022. Today, the accused was produced before the Siliguri Court, while, the women agents demonstrated outside the Court premises. Currently, the police are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire matter.
