Voluntary organization steps up to support 12-year-old vegetable seller in Siliguri

Siliguri, 09th July: Recently, the story of a 12-year-old girl named Sangeeta Das garnered attention when a video of her selling vegetables on the roadside went viral on social media. Due to financial constraints, Sangeeta had no choice but to abandon her studies and engage in vegetable vending. In response to this situation, Councilor Dilip Barman extended his support.

In a positive development, a voluntary organization called “Natun Pothe Oshohay Er Sathe” has now come forward to assist Sangeeta. The organization learned about her through the viral video and decided to lend a helping hand. Today, they provided Sangeeta with books and food items and assured her of further assistance to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

According to reports, Sangeeta’s father is a daily wage labourer, and her mother works as a domestic helper. A few days ago, her father suffered a leg injury in an accident, rendering him unable to work. As a result, the family faced a severe financial crisis, worsened by the additional expenses for her father’s treatment. Meeting basic needs became a challenge for the family.

Notably, Sangeeta is the eldest of four siblings, and she, along with her mother, took on the responsibility of supporting the family. In order to help her mother, Sangeeta defied all odds and set up a small vegetable shop near the Chandmuni Railway line area in Matigara, collecting yam leaves from the nearby forest. Her courageous effort to sell vegetables despite the hardships gained attention when a video of her went viral on social media.
