Siliguri, 19th August: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the local voluntary organisation in Siliguri tied rakhi threads around the wrists of women to display a sense of protection for the women of the city.
Traditionally, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated when sisters tie the holy thread of rakhi around their brother’s wrist. However, this year, the voluntary organisation in Siliguri took a different approach to celebrate the occassion by tying the thread around the women’s wrists emphasising a message of safety and security for the sisters of the city.
The celebration was carried out on the streets of Hashmi Chowk (Venus More) in Siliguri. This initiative was undertaken in response to the recent incident in the R.G. Kar Medical College and aimed to raise awareness about women’s safety.
