Siliguri, 14th July: Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Forest Department celebrated Van Mahotsav at Siliguri Baghajatin Park. More than 100 saplings were planted in Baghajatin Park. Besides, flower saplings were distributed among various voluntary organizations.
SMC administrator Goutam Deb planted a variety of saplings under his own initiative. He said that the ongoing pandemic has highlighted the importance of oxygen. Hence, more trees should be planted in the city. “The use of plastic carry bags is also seen in different markets. SMC has taken initiative to stop it completely. A meeting will be held with the traders very soon in this regard,” Deb added.
BoA member Ranjan Sarkar, Bibek Baid, and other forest department officials were present at the programme.
