Siliguri, 28th September: The Dabgram Range of Baikunthapur division successfully apprehended an army truck loaded with logs of valuable timber in Siliguri. Following this, four individuals, including two serving in the army, were apprehended. Later, the offenders were released on conditional bail.
As per reports, on Wednesday evening, the forest personnel of the Dabgram Range of Baikunthapur division in Siliguri launched a tip-off operation and apprehended an army truck. During this, a significant number of logs of valuable timber were recovered. The salvaged logs comprised a variety of valuable woods with a market value estimated to be lakhs of rupees.
According to forest department sources, the logs were being transported from the army camp located in Shalugara adjacent to Siliguri to the wood mill in the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) area. The army officials were immediately alerted about the matter. Upon receiving the news, the Army officials arrived at the spot. However, the precise reasons behind the illicit activity are yet to be ascertained. The forest officials did not reveal further information about the occurrence.
