Siliguri, 17th April: Amidst the Uttar Kanya Abhiyan organized by the left teachers’ organizations ABTA and ABPTA in support of their various demands, tensions escalated leading to a heated atmosphere. The protesters were eventually stopped by the police, who were then forced to utilize water cannons to regain control of the situation.
Today, the members of Left Teachers Organization All Bengal Teachers Association (ABTA) and All Bengal Primary Teachers’ Association (ABPTA) from Siliguri’s Naukaghat More with demands regarding National Education Policy 2020, all arrear payment, and D.A. implementation. Meanwhile, to stop any untoward incidents, police forces were already deployed in the area. As the protestors reached Tinbatti more, police confronted and stopped the march. At this juncture, police and the protestors engaged in a brawl. In no time, things escalated, and the police had to resort to the use of water canon to bring the situation under control.
Later, a team of representatives from the associations reached Uttar Kanya and submitted a memorandum. The members also undertook a meeting at the Tinbatti Hindi Junior School ground.
