Siliguri, 06th May: The Uttar Banga Safai Karamchari Welfare Organization staged a rally on Saturday to advocate for their various demands. The sanitation workers gathered in front of Baghajatin Park, calling for the regularization of temporary employees, payment of dearness allowance, the establishment of a fixed salary payment day, and the prompt filling of vacant positions. Subsequently, they protested in front of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
To maintain law and order during the rally, a team of the Siliguri Police force was deployed on-site, ensuring that no untoward incidents occurred. The assistant vice-president of the organization, while addressing the media, expressed their disappointment with the prolonged lack of resolution for their concerns. He declared the possibility of a massive agitation in the days to come if their demands remained unaddressed. Despite being responsible for keeping the city clean, the sanitation workers lamented the apparent disregard shown toward their own families and well-being.
