Siliguri, 11th July: In the wake of the arrest of fake Colonel Dalchand Verma, a cascade of deep secrets surrounding him has begun to unravel. Yesterday, a joint operation between the Army Intelligence Corps and Bhaktinagar police station led to the apprehension of Dalchand Verma at a restaurant in Salugara. Hailing from Sikkim, Verma, previously known as a gold merchant, had been posing as a colonel in the Indian Army. The transition from gold baron to fake colonel raises intriguing questions, and the veil is slowly being lifted.
After conducting a search of Verma’s mobile phone, the Army Intelligence Corps uncovered significant information. It has come to light that several officers and soldiers of the Indian Army had been in contact with the imposter. During preliminary interrogation, Verma revealed that he had purchased the Indian Army uniform in Bagdogra. He would frequently roam various areas in Siliguri wearing the uniform. Additionally, for the past 15 days, Verma had been visiting the vicinity of the Salugara Army Camp, where he would introduce himself to young individuals and extort money from them under the pretence of facilitating their recruitment into the Indian Army.
Acting on crucial leads, the Army Intelligence Corps and Bhakti Nagar police station devised a plan to contact the fake Colonel Dalchand Verma for a job opportunity. They arranged a meeting with him at a restaurant in Salugara, where Verma’s true identity was revealed during the conversation, leading to his apprehension. Today, the accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri court, and authorities have requested custody for further investigation. It is expected that a thorough examination will uncover the full extent of the imposter’s activities. As the investigation progresses, the intricate web of deception surrounding the fake colonel is anticipated to be fully exposed, shedding light on every secret he has guarded thus far.
