Unregistered e-rickshaws banned from main roads; drivers join protest in Ambari

Rajganj, 05th August: E-rickshaw (toto) drivers staged protest in Ambari on Monday, demanding the continuation of operations for unregistered vehicles. Hundreds of totos were parked at the Ambari Targhera ground in Rajganj Block, as drivers from Ambari and surrounding areas joined the demonstration. The protest also included blocking registered totos from passing through the road.

It is to be noted that the administration had banned unregistered totos on main roads effective August 1st, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among drivers. Protesters highlighted that many drivers come from poor families and purchased their vehicles with loans. The ban has severely impacted their livelihoods, leaving them struggling to pay installments.

Drivers expressed concerns about areas like Sahudangi, Canal More, Ghajoldoba, and Ashighar being blocked due to the ban. They demanded either registration numbers for their vehicles or alternative earning solutions. The protesters cautioned that if their concerns are not addressed, they would prevent registered totos from operating in rural areas outside the city.
