Siliguri, 07th August: A shocking revelation has come to light as a jail police constable has been arrested in connection with a drug smuggling operation. The accused constable, identified as Mubarak Ali, previously served at Siliguri Jail and was later posted as the In-charge of the Prisoner Ward at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
Investigations have alleged that Constable Mubarak Ali was involved in running a drug smuggling business while donning his uniform. The arrest was made under a joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and NJP Police. The initial detention of the constable occurred last Saturday, and upon further questioning, it was discovered that he was linked to drug smuggling activities.
On Sunday, the accused constable, Mubarak Ali, was presented before the Jalpaiguri court, which ordered a remand of 9 days for further investigation. The case unfolded on August 01 when the SOG apprehended a person named Mukit Alam with a substantial amount of cash and 600 grams of brown sugar near Kawakhali Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat. During interrogation, Mukit Alam disclosed that he had received the brown sugar from Constable Mubarak Ali for sale.
Further investigations revealed that Mubarak Ali was allegedly involved in trading drugs within the jail premises as well, selling brown sugar at double the market price to inmates. Additionally, during his tenure in the medical department of the prison, he is suspected to have tampered with the medical reports of the accused.
Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi stated that Mubarak Ali has been arrested in connection with the NDPS case and that the investigation is ongoing. The police are diligently examining all aspects of the matter to unravel the extent of the drug network and any potential collusion within the jail system.
