Siliguri, 05th November: An unsettling incident unfolded in the area under the jurisdiction of the Matigara police station where a man allegedly raped his 9-year-old niece. The accused Manjeet Sahni, a resident of Nutanpara in Ward No. 05 of Siliguri, was arrested about 15 days following the heinous crime.
According to reports, the victim’s family previously resided in the Nutanpara area when they were introduced to the accused Manjeet Sahni. The family eventually developed a close relationship with Manjeet and the accused was considered as the victim’s uncle before the family shifted to the area under the Matigara police station. The ignominious incident occurred on a day when the victim’s family left the house for some work. The accused Manjeet Sahni took advantage of the situation and visited the minor at her home. Subsequently, the minor was subjected to deception followed by sexual assault.
The incident came to light when the victim’s parents learned from their neighbor that a young man had visited their home while they were away. Upon questioning the minor, the entire incident came to the fore and the victim’s parents began looking for the accused. Following extensive investigation and with the assistance of the locals, the culprit was captured from Jhankar More on Sunday and turned over to the Khalpara Outpost police.
Subsequently, the police of the Khalpara outpost handed over the accused to the Matigara police station. The Matigara police then registered a case and arrested Manjeet Sahni on the charge of sexual assault. The accused will be produced before the Siliguri court on Monday. At present, the entire incident is under further police investigation.
