Kharibari, 17th November: In efforts to highlight the rich history and culture of the Cooch Behar region, an event titled ‘Udang Darbar’ was organized by the Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association at the Panitanki area of Kharibari. The event focused on the traditions, culture, and unity of the Rajbanshi community.
The Udang Darbar was led by the General Secretary of the association, Banshibodon Barman, who used the platform to deliver a strong message of unity among the Rajbanshi community. In his speech, Barman emphasized the need for the community to come together and voiced strong opinions regarding the issue of the 1947 India-Bhutan agreement.
Banshibodon Barman also criticized political parties for not fulfilling the promises made under the India-Bhutan integration agreement. He stated that the agreement made for the community’s inclusion in India, as per the constitution, must be respected. The community will align itself with those political parties who support their rightful demands.
Barman further extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister for recognizing and acknowledging the Rajbanshi language, and he also raised the demand for renaming Bagdogra Airport after Chila Roy, a legendary figure from the region.
In addition, Barman announced that the Rajbanshi community would organize a rail blockade on December 11 to protest the lack of fulfilment of the promises made regarding the India-Bhutan integration. He stated that the blockade would take place at the Barobisha railway station in Cooch Behar, where they would demand action on the pending issues.
