Two youths killed, one injured in road accident on Eastern Bypass in Siliguri

Siliguri, 27th December: A tragic road accident occurred on the Eastern Bypass in Siliguri on Friday evening, resulting in the deaths of two youths and leaving another seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Sarkar and Shivraj Das, while the injured has been named Rohit Barman. All three were residents of Haider Para and Shivram Pally areas.

According to reports, the three youths were riding a scooter when it went out of control while crossing Ashighar More. At the same time, a lorry approaching from behind hit them, causing the deaths of Pankaj Sarkar and Shivraj Das. Rohit Barman was critically injured and immediately admitted to Siliguri District Hospital.

Police from Ashighar Outpost, Bhakti Nagar, and the Ashighar Sub-Traffic Guard reached the spot promptly. The bodies were recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).

Notably, a few days ago, a school student had died in another road accident. Since then, the traffic police have intensified monitoring and awareness campaigns, but the number of accidents has not decreased. Questions are being raised about the role of the police administration in preventing fatalities in major accidents over the past month.

Local residents have complained that traffic is not properly monitored on the Eastern Bypass. The placement of goods on footpaths and careless driving are increasing the risk of accidents. Residents have demanded strict measures to reduce such incidents.
