Gajoldoba, 22nd May: In a tragic incident, two youths were killed in an elephant attack near the Dhadiya river banks in Takimari village under the Mantadari Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block. The incident occurred early Thursday morning when six individuals were returning home from a local function and encountered a wild elephant.
While four managed to escape, the two youths, Tushar Das and Narayan Das, died on the spot. The incident has triggered public outrage, with locals alleging that the forest department failed to take timely precautions. They pointed out that just a few days ago, a man named Rajesh Oraon also lost his life in an elephant attack in the same area.
After being informed, police from Bhorer Alo police station and Gajoldoba outpost reached the spot, followed later by forest department officials. The bodies were recovered and sent for autopsy.
Rajiv Lama, ADFO of Baikunthapur Forest Division, expressed sorrow over the incident. He said he met with the families and locals, who have demanded a quick response team and fencing. Discussions with villagers are scheduled for tomorrow and government assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased.
