Siliguri, 18th March: In a major success ahead of the upcoming elections, NJP Police arrested two youths with a firearm during an operation in Siliguri.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajib Dutta and Sanat Barman, both residents of the Paschim Dhantala area.
According to police sources, the two were reportedly standing in the Chobavita area around 2 pm on Tuesday, allegedly intending to sell the firearm.
Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes officers from NJP Police reached the spot. The accused attempted to flee but were caught by the police. A search led to the recovery of one firearm and ammunition.
Sanat Barman has a history of multiple firearm-related cases and had been previously arrested.
The two accused were presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
