Siliguri, 15th March: Plainclothes officers of Pradhan Nagar Police Station conducted a raid in the Darjeeling More area of Siliguri and arrested two youths for allegedly possessing brown sugar. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Saddam and Raja Mahato.
According to police sources, the officers noticed the two individuals loitering suspiciously in the area and detained them for questioning. During a search, approximately 300 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession. The two youths were immediately taken into custody. The market value of the seized narcotic substance is estimated to be around ₹15 lakh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had travelled to Siliguri from Malda. Reportedly, their plan was to get down at Darjeeling More and then travel to Jhankar More in a small vehicle. However, acting on a tip-off, plainclothes officers of Pradhan Nagar Police Station launched an operation and apprehended the suspects before they could carry out their plan.
Pradhan Nagar Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
