Two youths arrested with banned cough syrup near SJDA Market in Siliguri

Siliguri, 28th July: In a joint operation conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Pradhan Nagar police station, two youths were apprehended for possession of banned cough syrup. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shilajit Dutta and Palas Mahanto, both residents of the area under Pradhan Nagar police station.


Acting on a tip-off this afternoon, the police quickly initiated a campaign and stopped a scooty based on suspicion. A thorough search of the scooty was conducted, leading to the discovery of 29 bottles of banned cough syrup concealed in the trunk. Shilajit Dutta had reached Gate No. 2 of NBSTC bus stand, adjacent to Junction SJDA market to allegedly sell the banned cough syrup. 

In the presence of the Executive Magistrate, the Pradhan Nagar police station registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and subsequently arrested Shilajit Dutta and Palas Mahanto. The accused will be presented in the Siliguri court by the Pradhan Nagar police station tomorrow for further legal proceedings.
