Two Workers’ Unions protest at Naxalbari Tea Estate over various demands

Naxalbari, 06th January: Workers’ unions staged a protest in Naxalbari Tea Estate, alleging that the tea garden authorities are overburdening workers with excessive tasks. The protest was jointly organized by the Left-backed Darjeeling District Chia Kaman Mazdoor Union and the Trinamool Congress-backed INTTUC.

On Monday, tea workers stopped working and gathered in protest, demanding that workers no longer be overburdened. The protesters also called for timely payment of wages, provident fund (PF), and gratuity.

In response, Naxalbari Tea Estate Manager Kaushik Das stated that the garden has been facing financial difficulties in recent years, but despite this, workers continue to receive their wages, PF, and gratuity.

He further clarified that no worker is being forced to do extra work, and they are assigned tasks as required for an 8-hour workday.
