Siliguri, 07th November: In a significant breakthrough, Pradhan Nagar police station arrested two notorious thieves in Siliguri based on information received from Pune City Police of Maharashtra. Following the arrest, stolen cash amounting to lakhs was recovered. The arrested accused have been identified as MD Ashfaq (31) and Iqbal Alam (27).
As per reports, on October 19, a Rolex watch worth lakhs and Rs 26.50 lakhs in cash were stolen from a famous hotel in Pune City, Maharashtra. Following this, a complaint was registered at Pune City police station and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, police identified the thieves with the help of CCTV footage installed in the hotel. The CCTV footage revealed two hotel employees MD Asfaq and Iqbal Alam in the act of stealing. Subsequently, police started a hunt to apprehend the robbers.
During further investigation, police got the clue that both the accused were residents of Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal. About 19 days after the incident, Pune City Police got hold of the mobile tower location of both the accused which indicated them to be in Siliguri. Immediately, Pune City Police contacted Siliguri Metropolitan Police.
Meanwhile, the Pradhan Nagar police station of Siliguri Metropolitan Police took action and arrested both the thieves from an area under the jurisdiction of the said police station. Additionally, Rs 25 lakh in cash was also recovered from the culprits. Later, both the thieves were handed over to Pune City Police. The cops of Pune City Police produced both the accused before the Siliguri court and left on a 5-day transit remand.
