Siliguri, 21st May: It was a major break for the NJP police after they were successful in nabbing the prime accused in the rape case of two sisters. He was produced at the Jalpaiguri court today.
It is to recall, the two accused youths lifted the two sisters from the road in front of their house situated at the Ramnagar Colony area of Baribhasha in Siliguri on May 11, took them to a house, and raped them. A written complaint was lodged at the NJP police station on May 12.
Meanwhile, the younger sister fell ill the next day, following this, the police sent both the sisters to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a medical examination. The two accused had been absconding since the incident. Meanwhile, various voluntary organizations and the locals demanded severe punishment for the accused.
The NJP police nabbed the main accused Pawan Adhikari last night from his elder sister’s house in the Adabarighat area of Sitai under Cooch Behar district. Although he tried to escape through the farmland, the police eventually managed to get hold of him. The other accused Bhola Shah is still absconding.
