Two minors from Siliguri rescued from the clutches of traffickers

Siliguri, 16th January: After years of hard work, two minors were rescued from the clutches of traffickers and were returned to their family, on Saturday.


As per the report, Shanu Das, a resident of Pokaijote, fell seriously ill in 2016 and was admitted to the NBMCH. During the time, he left his four children at his sister’s house.

Somehow, 2 minors out of the four went to children’s home in Jalpaiguri. After he was discharged from the hospital, Shanu Das went to meet his daughters in the said home. Later, one of the minor was allegedly sold to a family from the home.


Acting promptly, Athe CID started investigating the incident and revealed that the home was involved in child trafficking racket. Several people were also arrested in connection to this. And the two minors were also rescued.

Later, with the help of Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, Shanu Das approached the Kolkata High Court to reclaim his two daughters. The minors were then kept in safe custody.

The two girls were finally reunited with their father in the presence of the District Child Protection Officer at the District Magistrate’s Office on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at Siliguri Journalists Club today, President of Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, Amit Sarkar shared the news today. Shanu Das thanked the Legal Aid Forum for helping him get back his daughters.
