Two killed after inhaling poisonous fumes while cleaning a well in Phansidewa, one hospitalized

Phansidewa, 24th May: Two individuals tragically lost their lives while one is in critical condition due to direct exposure to poisonous fumes while cleaning an abandoned well. The incident took place in the Bomra Line area of Kamala Tea Estate in Ghoshpukur, Phansidewa block. The deceased have been identified as Ashik Toppo and Vijay Kujur.


According to reports, on Friday, the three individuals had descended deep into an abandoned well to clean it. However, the locals were alarmed when they noted no response from the well for a long time. Subsequently, the Ghoshpukur police were immediately informed. Later, the Matigara and Siliguri police officials arrived at the spot and directed oxygen supply to the three with the aid of a fan and pipe. During this, one individual was successfully brought back to consciousness.

Later, the three were rescued and rushed to the Phansidewa Rural Hospital, where the doctors declared two of them dead. Meanwhile, the survivor was immediately transported to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for further treatment. The incident cast an atmosphere of shock and mourning over the entire area.
