Two employees of a tea estate in Naxalbari face probe over threat and embezzlement allegations

Naxalbari, 17th October: Two sub-staff members of Manjha Tea Estate, Roshan Tirki, and Binod Khalko, have been accused of fraud and embezzlement by the estate management. Reportedly, the duo placed the names of fake workers on the payroll to withdraw funds from the bank accounts. The estate authorities have lodged a formal complaint at the Naxalbari police station.


As per details received, the two employees have been allegedly manipulating the payroll from 2021 to 2022 by adding the names of family members and others to embezzle funds from the estate. As soon as the fraud came to light, the senior manager of the estate, Dhanaram Choudhury, reported receiving death threats from the accused.

In this regard, Choudhury stated that the accused were diverting funds by listing the names of estate workers, family members, and even two students among others on the payroll. He has called for strict action against the fraudsters.


Meanwhile, Darjeeling District Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash confirmed over the phone that an investigation is underway.
