Phansidewa, 23rd July: A tragic accident on National Highway 31 near Bijlimoni area in Phansidewa claimed the lives of two workers and left three others injured.
The incident occurred when an oil-laden tanker broke down due to a mechanical fault and was being repaired by workers. During the repair, a speeding lorry lost control and rammed into the workers, killing two of them on the spot and injuring three others.
The impact of the collision caused a fire in the oil tanker. Locals rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations. Soon after, personnel from the Bidhan Nagar Investigation Centre and two fire engines reached the scene and brought the fire under control.
The injured were taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), while the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
As of the latest reports, the identities of the deceased and injured have not been confirmed. The lorry involved fled the scene, and police have launched a search to trace the vehicle.
