Siliguri, 01st October: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Pradhan Nagar police have successfully apprehended two brothers for allegedly operating an illegal cough syrup racket in Siliguri. The accused brothers have been identified as Bikram Jha and Vinit Jha, both residents of Gurung Basti located in Ward No. 3 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
According to reports, the SOG and cops of Pradhan Nagar police station launched a tip-off operation in a residence at Champasari area under Ward No. 46. During this, 2275 pieces of illegal cough syrup were retrieved from the house. The market value of the intoxicating substances is worth 5 lakhs rupees.
Subsequently, the police arrested the two brothers on charges of running the illegal racket and registered a case under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances) Act. On Sunday, both the accused were produced before the Siliguri Court for legal proceedings.
