Two arrested with illegal logs of Burma Teak wood in Siliguri

Siliguri, 20th August: In a significant achievement, a collaborative team of Special Task Force (STF) from the West Bengal Headquarters and the Forest ranger of Taipoo Beat successfully retrieved a container truck loaded with illegal Burma teak woods and apprehended two smugglers in connection to the case. The accused smugglers have been identified as Chandrasekhara KP (36), a resident of Hurudi Village in Sakleshpur of Bangalore, and Vikash Gowda (26), a resident of Magadi Road, Bangalore.


According to reports, the authorities busted the attempted scheme to smuggle the woods and apprehended the accused from Fatapukur. Preliminary investigations revealed that about 115 logs of Burma teak woods were illegally being smuggled from Guwahati in Assam to Nagpur in Maharashtra. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the woods measured approximately 600 plus CFTs with a market value of Rs 60 lakhs.
