Siliguri, 15th December: Plainclothes personnel of the Pradhan Nagar police station, acting on a tip-off, arrested two persons with a large quantity of liquor before it could be smuggled to Bihar. The arrested accused have been identified as Roshan Kumar and Raju Das, both residents of Bihar.
According to police sources, late on Sunday night, the two accused were transporting a consignment of liquor from Sikkim towards the Siliguri Junction area on a scooty. After receiving information, the Pradhan Nagar police team reached the spot and stopped the scooty on suspicion.
During the search, police recovered four cartons containing a total of 84 bottles of liquor from the two-wheeler. The two accused were arrested on the spot.
Both accused were produced before a Siliguri court on Monday. Police have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the liquor and to identify others involved in the smuggling racket.
