Siliguri, 02nd November: In a significant breakthrough, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI) Siliguri Unit successfully apprehended two smugglers with gold worth crore of rupees from Sampark Kranti Express at NJP Railway Station. The accused smugglers have been identified as Ankit Tak and Kamlesh Ghanchi, both residents of Rajasthan.
According to reports, the DRI team conducted an operation on Sampark Kranti Express based on a tip-off. The authorities were alerted that the gold was being smuggled from Indo-Bangladesh border to Guwahati via Tripura . On Wednesday night, at NJP Railway Station, the team searched the two accused based on suspicion.
During the search, four pieces of gold weighing 1767.500 grams were retrieved from their possession. The estimated market value of the gold is more than 1.7 crores. On Thursday, both accused were produced before the Siliguri Court for legal proceedings.
