Siliguri, 07th September: Based on a tip-off, the Detective Department of Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested two persons along with a huge quantity of illegal cough syrup. The arrested accused have been identified as Uttam Kumar Shah and Rajiv Ranjan Kumar. Both are residents of Siliguri’s Haider Para and Bhanunagar area respectively.
According to Detective Department sources, Uttam Kumar is a medicine distributor. He had been running a black market for a long time under the guise of having a drug license. The other accused Rajiv used to assist him in his illegal work. On the other hand, it has been learned that Rajiv, who is the manager of a transport carrier, used to bring cough syrup from Kanpur and sell it in Siliguri.
Meanwhile, the DD launched a search operation last evening and recovered 9660 bottles of cough syrup worth 3 lakh rupees. The arrested were produced before the court today.
