Siliguri, 27th September: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the possession of 509 grams of brown sugar, valued at lakhs of rupees, prior to an alleged smuggling operation. The arrests were made by the Panitanki Outpost of Kharibari.
The suspects, identified as Lakina Bibi and Jamal Uddin Sheikh, both residents of Murshidabad, were apprehended on Friday morning in the Uttar Ramdhan Jote area, near the India-Nepal border in Kharibari. Following a search, the police recovered 509 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
According to police sources, the duo had intended to smuggle the drugs from Murshidabad to the Panitanki area. After their arrest, they were taken to the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
