Two arrested with brown sugar and 23 lakh cash in Siliguri

Siliguri, 06th August: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police busted the attempted smuggling of drugs on the banks of the Manojghat River in the Kalam Jote area under the jurisdiction of the Medical Police Outpost. Following this, two miscreants identified as Krishna Roy (40) and Pradeep Singha (56), residents of Naxalbari and Dangapara respectively, were arrested.


According to reports, on Saturday night, acting on a tip-off, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Matigara police station, and the Medical Outpost police launched a joint operation in the aforementioned area and detained two individuals on a two-wheeler based on suspicion. During the search, the authorities discovered a bag comprising brown sugar that weighed about 500 grams and several bundles of cash that amounted to over Rs 23 lakhs in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200, and Rs 100. Subsequently, both the occupants were arrested and the scooty was also seized by the police. Today, both accused were presented before the Siliguri Court, while, police are engaged in further investigation.
