Siliguri, 27th April: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the undercover cops of Bhakti Nagar police station arrested two individuals with brown sugar in Eastern Bypass area. The arrested accused have been identified as Sajjuil Sheikh and Nurul Islam, both residents of Malda.
According to police sources, the SOG received inputs regarding smuggling of drugs from Malda to Siliguri. Acting on the tip-off, the SOG along with the cops of Bhakti Nagar police station launched an operation in the Eastern Bypass area and apprehended both the accused.
During the subsequent search, about 300 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession. The market value of the seized drugs has been estimated to be in lakhs of rupees. Subsequently, the police registered a case against both the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested them. The arrested accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Sunday.
