Siliguri, 04th October: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) in collaboration with the Bhakti Nagar police station recovered cannabis worth lakhs from a hidden compartment in a car door in Siliguri. The incident led to the arrest of accused Srimanto Barman and Tarun Barman, both residents of Cooch Behar.
According to reports, the team of SOG and Bhakti Nagar police collaborated on an operation based on a tip-off at the PC Mittal bus terminal. Subsequently, the authorities halted a four-wheeler and searched the vehicle based on suspicion. During the search, police discovered a hidden chamber in the door of the car containing over 25 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated market value of lakhs. Investigation revealed that the cannabis was being transported from Cooch Behar to Dalkhola via Siliguri for its clandestine disposal.
The accused were arrested under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. On Thursday, the accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court.
