Siliguri, 28th April: The Bhakti Nagar police station, under the Siliguri Metropolitan Police, uncovered a drug smuggling racket operating in a Sikkim government vehicle. Two Sikkim government employees, identified as Sonam Gurung and Pradeep Pradhan, have been arrested in connection with the case. Both individuals held official driver positions in Sikkim.
According to police sources, Sonam and Pradeep had been using a cargo truck with a Government of Sikkim logo to transport banned cough syrup and drug injections for sale in Sikkim. After receiving a tip, the Bhakti Nagar police station launched an investigation and stopped a government vehicle with a Sikkim number plate near Check Post last night, based on suspicion.
During the search, police found banned cough syrup and intoxicant injections concealed in cartons inside the vehicle. As the accused could not produce any valid documents, they were arrested. Today, both Sonam and Pradeep were produced in the Jalpaiguri court. Authorities are investigating whether the goods truck belonged to the Government of Sikkim or if the accused were attempting to deceive police by using government logos. Additionally, police are determining whether the accused were government employees or not.
