Phansidewa, 18th January: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the death of a private bank treasurer in Phansidewa. The arrested accused have been identified as Pratap Sarkar and Samir Debnath.
According to police sources, the incident took place last Friday when Prahlad Basak, treasurer of a private bank in Phansidewa, allegedly died under mysterious circumstances.
Reportedly, suspicion arose among other bank employees after he went to the washroom and failed to return for a long time. His body was later recovered.
Following the incident, the bank authorities lodged a complaint at Phansidewa police station, alleging a financial discrepancy of approximately Rs 14 lakh. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and arrested bank manager Pratap Sarkar and another employee, Samir Debnath.
Both the accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday. Phansidewa police are continuing further investigation into the matter.
