Siliguri, 05th February: The Pradhan Nagar police have arrested two individuals for allegedly smuggling banned cough syrup while posing as passengers. The accused have been identified as Shiven Dostidar and Babulal Prasad, both residents of the NJP area.
According to police sources, the duo arrived at the Siliguri Junction bus stand with bags on their shoulders, pretending to be passengers. Acting on a tip-off, undercover officers from Pradhan Nagar police station launched an operation and apprehended them based on suspicion.
Upon searching their bags, the police recovered hundreds of bottles of banned cough syrup, which they were unable to produce any valid documents for. Both were immediately arrested on charges of smuggling the banned substance.
On Wednesday, the accused were presented in Siliguri court. The police have started further investigation into the matter.
