Siliguri, 16th January: Two people, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly attempting to abduct a minor schoolgirl in Siliguri. The incident occurred after school hours when a sixth-grade student was returning home.
According to police sources, the accused, Maya Ghosh, a resident of Gulma, and Abhijit Sutradhar from Champasari, approached the girl near the school gate on a scooty. They initially tried to engage her in conversation and later attempted to force her onto the two-wheeler under the pretext of taking her home.
The girl managed to escape due to her alertness and courage. When the accused tried again, she screamed for help. Hearing her cries, local shopkeepers and residents rushed to the scene and informed the Pradhan Nagar police. The police promptly arrived, rescued the girl, and arrested the two accused.
Following the incident, the girl’s mother filed a written complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Police are examining the intentions of the accused and may interrogate them further. Both the accused have been produced before Siliguri Court on Friday.
