Two apprehended for online payment fraud in Siliguri

Siliguri, 22nd June: Amid the growing popularity of UPI payments, instances of online fraud have surged. A recent case in Siliguri saw a young man and a woman detained by local residents and subsequently taken into police custody for committing UPI payment fraud.


According to reports, the suspects targeted businesses in Pakurtala More, Siliguri, pretending to make purchases and pay via UPI. On Saturday, they attempted to deceive shopkeepers by showing a fake successful UPI transaction. However, the shopkeeper became suspicious and, with the assistance of local residents, apprehended the duo.

The accused were then tied to an electric pole as the police from Panitanki Outpost were notified. Upon arrival, the police took both suspects into custody and transported them to the police station.


Authorities indicate that the duo has allegedly defrauded several Siliguri businesses using this method. A thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
