Siliguri, 30th January: The Trinamool Congress organised a protest meeting in Bagdogra on Friday against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme, following the alleged controversial remarks made by Union MoS Sukanta Majumdar.
Ahead of the meeting, the stage was symbolically purified with Ganga water while protesters raised slogans against Majumdar. The TMC event was organised after complaints and a defamation case were filed against Majumdar over his remark calling the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati a “land mafia.”
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, District Chairman Sanjay Tibrewal, Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh, and several other TMC leaders attended the protest.
During her address, West Bengal Minister Birbaha Hansda sharply criticised the BJP, claiming the party is attempting to seize power in the state by any means but will fail. She warned that any threat to confine women at home would be met with strong resistance, asserting that the TMC would respond firmly.
Minister Hansda also alleged that central forces are being used as part of a conspiracy, which she said would not succeed. She further stated that the BJP would face political consequences in 2026 for the deaths linked to the SIR programme.
