Trihana Tea Estate issues notice-based closure after gate meeting held calling for bonus in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 10th October: The Trihana Tea Estate located in Mohanlal division of Phansidewa issued a notice-based closure of the tea estate following the protest demanding bonus.


According to reports, numerous gate meetings are taking place in various sections of North Bengal seeking bonuses. Subsequently, a similar gate meeting was held in the Trihana Tea Estate demanding for a bonus. However, on Monday night, the tea estate owner reportedly left after a notice was hung up ordering the immediate shutdown of the tea estate for an illimitable period of time. The incident led to the uncertainty in the future of 500 workers.

On Tuesday morning, the gate was barred when the workers arrived at the tea estate for work. The employees claimed that it was unquestionable that the owner shut down the estate due to the protest. In addition, they cautioned a massive agitation in the future if the closure is not lifted in the upcoming days. Reportedly, a formal complaint would be filed with the labour department in the interim.
