Truck driving is widely regarded as one of the most demanding professions in the country, with drivers enduring long hours on the road regardless of the weather conditions. However, the scorching summer season poses an additional challenge for truck drivers. Recognizing these difficulties, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a significant announcement aimed at improving driver comfort. Minister Gadkari has issued an order mandating that all truck cabins must be equipped with air conditioning by 2025.
Trucks play a crucial role in transporting goods across different regions of India, and truck drivers often navigate challenging conditions to deliver their cargo. These drivers frequently face hardships during the summer, operating their trucks in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The combination of engine heat and rising temperatures can make drivers uncomfortable, yet they continue to drive for hours on end, leading to potential accidents.
Taking these concerns into account, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has taken a proactive step to prioritize the well-being of truck drivers. He has directed that all trucks across the country must have air-conditioned cabins installed as a mandatory requirement. The implementation of this order will ensure that truck drivers can operate in a more comfortable environment.
During an address at a recent program, Nitin Gadkari highlighted the gruelling work hours of truck drivers, which amount to approximately 14,716 hours. He mentioned his longstanding desire to install air conditioning in truck cabins during his tenure as minister, despite facing opposition due to concerns over increased costs. However, today he announced that he had signed a file, officially ordering the compulsory installation of air-conditioning in all truck cabins throughout the country.
