Siliguri, 12th July: In a heartbreaking incident in Dadabhai Colony of Prakash Nagar, under Ward No. 43 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, a young man lost his life while attempting to extract a piece of wood from a well. The deceased has been identified as Bishnu Barman, also known as Bijay (30). The sequence of events unfolded when an elderly neighbour named Basudev Barman asked Bishnu to retrieve a piece of wood that was inside the well.
Responding to the request, Bishnu visited Basudev’s house and descended into the well by tying a rope to a pillar. Unfortunately, he encountered toxic gases within the well, rendering him unconscious. The incident prompted a swift response, with the fire department, police, and ambulances being urgently contacted. Fire department personnel arrived promptly and rescued Bishnu from the well. He was rushed to Siliguri District Hospital, where doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have leveled allegations against Basudev, accusing him of intentionally causing Bishnu’s demise by pushing him into the well. The police are actively investigating the matter to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
