Siliguri, 27th October: The tragic passing of a child has led to serious allegations of medical negligence against Siliguri District Hospital, raising concerns about patient care and accountability within the facility.
Reportedly on Tuesday, Hamid Raja, a seven-year-old from Matigara, was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital with symptoms including fever, cold, cough, and throat pain. Although he initially showed signs of recovery, his condition suddenly worsened. Family members alleged that the child was discharged despite the deteriorating conditions.
In spite of repeated requests, the on-duty physician failed to provide proper care and left the ward without examining the child. They further alleged that the doctor suggested they take Hamid to an outpatient department followed by deliberate insults.
Tragically, Hamid passed away shortly after that, leading to a protest from his family and the community regarding the hospital’s handling of his case. In response to the escalating tensions, a large police presence has been deployed to the hospital premises.
Hospital Superintendent Chandan Ghosh stated that the situation requires careful investigation before conclusions can be drawn. He assured that steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future, and an investigation into the matter would have already commenced. Meanwhile, the grieving family demands justice and appropriate action regarding the incident.
