Itahar, 06th May: Five people, including two children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident at NH-34 in Itahar under Uttar Dinajpur district. The deceased have been identified as Swapan Das, Pinky Das, Ishan Das, Anirban Basak, and Panchami Das. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.
As per the report, all five were returning home from a wedding event in an e-rickshaw (Toto) and a motorcycle late Wednesday night. This is when both the vehicles collided head-on with a freight lorry at Itahar’s Pump More area, killing all five on the spot.
Meanwhile, the accused lorry driver and conductor managed to escape the scene. The Itahar police sent the bodies for autopsy and have launched an investigation into the incident.
