Tragic accident in Siliguri claims six lives, two villages in mourning

Siliguri, 12th August: A tragic road accident in Siliguri has claimed the lives of six individuals, leaving two villages in deep mourning. The deceased, identified as Govind Chowdhury, Amlesh Chowdhury, Prahlad Roy, Kanak Barman, Pranab Roy, and Himesh Roy Chowdhury, were on their way to worship at the Junglee Baba Temple in Bagdogra when the incident occurred.


 

The group of ten, hailing from the villages of Gokul Jote near Haskhowa Tea Estate and Danagachh, set out early on Monday morning. However, just a few kilometers from their homes, they were struck by a vehicle on National Highway No. 31 near Muni Tea Estate around 5 a.m. The collision resulted in the immediate death of six members of the group.


 

Among the deceased, Amlesh Chowdhury, Govind Chowdhury, and Himesh Roy Chowdhury were from the same family, residents of Gokul Jote. The other victims, Prahlad Roy, Kanak Barman, and Pranab Roy, were residents of Danagachh. The tragic news has devastated both villages.

 

Upon receiving the news, local leaders, including the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati, Sahakari Sabhadhipati, and the BDO of Phansidewa, rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) to offer their support to the grieving families. They assured to stand with the families of the deceased.

 

It was reported that one of the victims, Prahlad Roy, was a Civic Volunteer serving as a traffic guard under Kawakhali Traffic Guard. He was scheduled to return to duty after performing the puja.

 

Another victim, Himesh Roy Chowdhury, was a 10th standard student. The local administration has pledged their full support to the families of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking accident.
