Siliguri, 15th December: In an effort to prevent road accidents and promote traffic awareness, the Ashighar Sub Traffic Guard of Siliguri Metropolitan Police carried out a unique awareness drive on Monday.
The initiative was conducted near Loknath Market along the Eastern Bypass, where traffic police personnel stopped drivers riding without helmets and those travelling in four-wheelers without wearing seatbelts. Instead of imposing fines, the police handed out rose flowers and sweets to convey a positive message on road safety.
Traffic officials said the Eastern Bypass has witnessed frequent accidents, and despite repeated enforcement and awareness campaigns, many motorists continue to violate traffic rules by not wearing helmets or seatbelts.
As part of the drive, helmetless two-wheeler riders and drivers and passengers without seatbelts were given roses and sweets, while children were handed chocolates. Motorists were also educated about the importance of following traffic rules to reduce accidents.
Police officials stated that such awareness initiatives aim to encourage voluntary compliance with traffic laws and improve overall road safety.
