Siliguri, 27th December: With growing concern over frequent road accidents and loss of life on Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass, the traffic department has stepped up action to prevent further incidents. A decision has been taken to set up speed breakers along the accident-prone stretch.
On Saturday, ACP Anirban Majumdar conducted an inspection of the Eastern Bypass. He was accompanied by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and personnel from the Ashighar Sub-Traffic Guard. Following the inspection, it was decided that speed breakers would soon be set up at two key locations, Ashighar More and Baneswar More.
According to police officials, overspeeding and rash driving have been identified as the main causes behind repeated accidents on the bypass. The move to set up speed breakers aims to control vehicle speed and improve road safety.
The traffic department stated that ensuring the safety of commuters remains its top priority and assured that additional measures would be taken in the future to reduce accidents on the Eastern Bypass.
